CES or “Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation” is an internationally accepted treatment. CES is often used in lieu of anti-anxiety medication.
CES is not a heavily advertised technology due to its low cost and reusability. Frankly the CES business is not as profitable as drugs nor does it produce the recurring revenue which interests large companies.
CES has an excellent safety record with virtually no side effects. The National Research Council and other published literature conclude CES is safe even at its maximum intensity.
Harvard University School of Public Health and the University of Tulsa have conducted meta-analysis with positive conclusions. No significant negative side effects have been seen including two year follow-up studies.
In 1976 the U.S. National Research Council studied CES at FDA's request. The NRC determined that no significant risk was present from using CES as recommended.
There are no known contraindications for use of CES but there are circumstances where safety has not been tested. CES should not be used without on-going clinical supervision by severe depressives, epileptics, those known to be pregnant, or by individuals with implanted electronic devices such as cardiac pacemakers or insulin pumps.
As a reasonable precaution, please do not use the system while operating dangerous or complex equipment or while driving.
Fewer than three percent of CES users report a slight headache which is usually alleviated by simply turning down the current. If the headache recurs during ordinary use, stop using the CES unit and consult with your healthcare provider.
CES is not a substitute for professional counseling or constructive relationships but a useful tool in reaching and maintaining a balanced emotional state.
Researchers believe that CES works by indirectly stimulating tissue in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. This causes the brain to manufacture various neurohormones, restoring the brain to pre-stress homeostasis.
The exact physiological mechanism is still being researched but sometimes referred to as “neuroplasticity”. Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells in the brain) to compensate for injury and disease.
The CES administers its 1 maH (milliamp) current via pre-gelled electrodes behind each ear or ear-clips placed on the earlobes.
Most people enjoy the gentle tingling of the current which is adjusted by turning the knob at the top of the unit. Research shows that CES operates effectively at all unit settings including levels of stimulation below what you can feel. Tune the unit to your comfort and enjoyment.
1) Attach the ear-clips to your earlobes or the electrodes to your neck just behind your lower ears.
2) Insert the lead-wire into the unit's jack.
3) Turn the unit on and dial it to the desired tingling sensation (amplitude).
Set the timer to the desired length of treatment. Default setting is 30 minutes.
Most people experience a relaxed-but-alert state soon after treatment. Others notice a response after several days.
CES has been approved for the treatment of insomnia. Within the first few treatments your sleep patterns should normalize with fewer sleep disruptions, sounder sleep and awakening more rested. Individual results may vary but with repeated use your sleep pattern will improve and stabilize.
CES users report that depression and mood swings become less frequent, as do irrational anger, irritability, and poor impulse control. Brain fog will continue to subside and your memory and ability to focus and concentrate will return to pre-stress levels. All these results without anxiety medication.

Use 3Calm until the symptoms disappear. Some symptoms may fade quickly and others may take up to two weeks with daily use. Some addiction treatment clinics use the CES device on patients for multiple hours a day. Use CES as frequently as you like because it is not addictive. When symptoms subside users turn to the system for the comfortable habit of a nap several times a week.
Individuals undergoing psychiatric treatment or suffering from severe generalized anxiety disorder and extreme compulsive behavior often benefit from more frequent and longer sessions. When depression or anxiety dissipates continue to use the 3Calm System as needed to prevent relapse of your symptoms. Work closely with your physician/licensed healthcare provider to determine the role CES plays in your overall treatment program.
